FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT LAWS
 
ACT Application of Law
1. Equal Pay Act of 1963:
Prohibits any difference in pay based on gender; between men and women who perform the similar job.
Any employer with two or more employees, and also who are engaged in interstate commerce. Also applies to companies engaged in production of goods or service in interest commerce.
2. Title VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964:
Prohibits discrimination based on race, gender, color, religion, or national origin.
Any employer (both government and private) with 15 or more employees who work 20 or more weeks per year.
3. American With disabilities ACT of 1990
Requires employers to provide reasonable accommodation for employees and those seeking employment, to those with physical or mental disabilities.
All employers with 15 or more employees.
4. Immigration Reform Act (1996)
Requires all employers to require proper verification for employment eligibilities.
Applies to employers (small, big and individuals). In general all employers are required to provide form I-9 and verify employment eligibility.
5. Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993
Requires employers to grant qualified employees to unpaid leave for certain family of medical reasons (such as, birth, adoption).
Employers with 50 or more employees.
