II. CHILD LABOR LAWS
 
1. Minimum Age: 14 Year of Age at the time of hiring
2. Hours of Work:
Minors 14 & 15 years
3 Hours (during the school day)
8 Hours (non-school day)
18 hours total (school week)
40 hours total (non-school week)
Not during normal school hours
Not before 7 am
Not after 7 pm
Exception: Evening hours extended to 9 pm during summer vacation.
3. Hazardous Occupations
Minors 17 years or younger
Manufacturing & storing explosives, motor vehicle driving and outside helper, coal mining, logging and sawmilling, power-driven woodworking machines, exposure to radioactive substances, power-driven hoisting apparatus, power-driven metal-forming, punching, operating shearing machines, mining, slaughtering, meat packaging, processing or rendering, power-driven bakery machines, power-driven paper products machines, manufacturing brick, tiles & kindred products, power-driven circular saws, bank saws, and gulotine shears, wrecking, demolition, ship-breaking operations, roofing operations, excavations operations. Alcoholic Beverages dispensing, serving, selling or taking orders.
Exception: Where alcohol is sold for consumption OFF the premises. NOTE - State & Local laws may be more restrictive. Check with the local licensing departments.
4. Prohibited Occupations
Minors 15 years or younger
Under Federal laws, hiring minors for the following occupations is prohibited - Manufacturing, mining, public messenger service, construction, work in & out of boiler rooms or engine rooms, cooking and any power-driven tree or even weed cutting.
